Name of the Mine
Merian mine.

Location
Merian is located in north-eastern Suriname, about 66 km south of Moengo and 30 km north of the Nassau mountains, near the border with French Guiana.

Mine Owner/s
Merian is operated through the Suriname Gold Project CV partnership. Newmont owns 75%, through Newmont Suriname LLC, and Staatsolie Maatschappij Suriname NV, Suriname’s State-owned oil company, owns the remaining 25%.

Brief Description
Merian is an openpit gold mine and processing operation in Suriname. The operation currently includes the Merian 2, Merian 1, Maraba and Kupari openpits.

Brief History
Historical Newmont project-disclosure material records exploration in the Merian area from 2004. Construction of the Merian mine started in August 2014 and commercial production was achieved in October 2016.

Gold.

Secondary Metals/Minerals
None stated.

Geology/Mineralisation
Gold mineralisation at Merian is closely associated with quartz veining within siltstone and sandstone formations.

Reserves
As at December 31, 2025, Merian had attributable proven and probable gold reserves of 129.4-million tonnes grading 1.09 g/t gold.

Resources
As at December 31, 2025, Merian had attributable measured and indicated gold resources, exclusive of reserves, of 54.8-million tonnes grading 1.05 g/t gold. Inferred gold resources were 79.7-million tonnes grading 0.8 g/t gold, containing 2.1-million ounces.

Openpit mine.

Mining Method
Mining is undertaken from openpits using surface mining equipment. The available mining fleet consists of three shovels, three excavators and 41 haul trucks, each with a 150 t payload.

Major Infrastructure/Equipment
Merian’s main infrastructure includes the Merian 2, Merian 1, Maraba and Kupari openpits. 
The processing facilities comprise a conventional gold mill, primary crusher and processing plant, with comminution, gravity and cyanide leach processes, and recovery by carbon-in-leach, elution, electrowinning and induction furnace smelting to produce gold doré.

Prospects
Newmont has identified Merian as a focus area for exploration. The company expects to direct a significant proportion of its exploration funding to prospective targets at Merian, Cerro Negro and Ahafo South, with Merian openpit extensions included in its organic growth plans.
