ASX-listed Lotus Resources says that both acid production and uranium processing have resumed at its Kayelekera uranium mine, in Malawi.

Processing was suspended in June following the disruption of third-party acid supply and a setback in the commissioning of the acid plant owing to the partial failure of refractory bricks within the sulphur furnace.

Interim furnace repair works are now complete and acid supply has been replenished, enabling the successful restart of both the acid plant and processing plant.

“We are very pleased to see the restart of processing and, with this, the drumming of uranium to follow shortly. While production was paused, the team continued to execute the processing optimisation plan, as well as completing critical maintenance, which will support the plant reaching steady-state levels,” says MD Greg Bittar.

“The acid plant, with sufficient sulphur inventory on site and supply visibility for the remainder of calendar year 2026, is a key strategic project for Kayelekera and will deliver improved acid supply security and significantly reduced reagent costs,” he adds.
