Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) has appointed Siphamandla Mthethwa CEO effective November 1.

This follows a Cabinet decision that was taken on September 23, which deemed Mthethwa apt to return to the organisation after three years of absence. He previously worked as ACSA CFO.

Mthethwa first joined ACSA in 2020, before which he held senior financial leadership positions in telecommunications, banking and mining.

Having first joined and helped to steer ACSA during the difficult period that was Covid-19, he again joins ACSA at an important time of recovery and growth.

Mthethwa will succeed Charles Shilowa, who worked as acting CEO since July 1 this year. Shilowa provided leadership continuity after former CEO Mpumi Mpofu concluded her fixed-term tenure.

"Mthethwa returns not simply to the ACSA he left, but to an organisation that has survived an extraordinary crisis and is rebuilding from a position of renewed financial strength. The task ahead is to consolidate that recovery, strengthen operational excellence, invest in world-class airport infrastructure and position ACSA for sustainable growth.

“ACSA has shown its resilience over the last five years, the next chapter is about building an ACSA that is financially sustainable, operationally excellent, trusted by its stakeholders and ready for the future of aviation," comments chairperson Irvin Phenyane, referring to ACSA having recorded a landmark net profit of R1.1-billion in the year ended March 31, 2025, which more than doubled the net profit of R472-million reported in the 2024 financial year.
