Name of the Project
Alaska liquefied natural gas (LNG) project.

Location
Alaska, in the US.

Project Owner/s
Energy infrastructure developer, owner and operator Glenfarne Group, through Glenfarne Alaska LNG, is the developer and 75% owner. The state of Alaska owns the remaining 25% through Alaska Gasline Development Corporation (AGDC).

Project Description
The project is being developed in two financially independent phases.

Phase 1 comprises a 1 189 km, 42-inch-diameter pipeline supplying North Slope natural gas to domestic consumers.

Phase 2 adds LNG liquefaction and related infrastructure at Nikiski, extending the mainline to about 1 299 km and allowing for exports of 20-million tonnes a year.

The Nikiski LNG facility is planned to include three trains, two 240 000 m³ storage tanks, terminal and marine facilities, and two loading berths accommodating carriers of up to 217 000 m³.

The full mainline has a stated capacity of 3.3-billion cubic feet a day. The project includes a North Slope gas treatment plant.

Potential Job Creation
The project is expected to create 12 000 construction jobs and up to 1 000 long-term operations jobs.

Capital Expenditure
The AGDC estimates that the cost of the facilities will be between $40-billion and $45-billion.

Planned Start/End Date
Glenfarne announced on January 22, 2026, that mechanical completion of the Phase 1 pipeline was targeted for 2028 and first gas delivery for 2029.

Latest Developments
On September 30, 2026, Glenfarne welcomed an announced South Korean investment of more than $50-billion in Alaska LNG. The company said it would work with the US and Korean governments to finalise the investment structure and complete the remaining steps towards a final investment decision (FID).

Commercial agreements represented 13-million tonnes a year of the 16-million tonnes a year targeted to support the FID, according to the September announcement. In February 26, 2026, a release identified the underlying commitments as preliminary long-term agreements with TotalEnergies, JERA, Tokyo Gas, CPC, PTT and POSCO.

Key Contracts, Suppliers and Consultants
Worley (Phase 1 engineering and provisionally selected for engineering, procurement and construction management, subject to a definitive agreement); Corinth Pipeworks and Europipe (preliminary line-pipe supply agreements; and POSCO (steel); Baker Hughes (supply of LNG terminal main refrigerant compressors and gas treatment plant power generation equipment); Precision Pipeline; Price Gregory International; Michels Pipeline/Houston Contracting Company; Associated Pipe Line Contractors/Doyon Energy Services/Cruz Construction; Barnard Pipeline/SICIM; and Spiecapag/US Pipeline (conditional pipeline construction).
