Name of the Project

K.Hill manganese project.

Location

Kanye basin, Botswana.

Project Owner/s

Battery metal development company Giyani Metals Corp (100%).

Project Description

The project proposes mine-to-market development, which will produce high-purity manganese sulphate monohydrate (HPMSM) and high-purity manganese oxide (HPMO) for the electric-vehicle and energy-storage sectors. The project is based on a conventional openpit mining operation and a hydrometallurgical processing facility designed to process about 220 000 t/y of dry run-of-mine ore over a 25-year mine life. The May 2026 definitive feasibility study (DFS) is based on proven and probable mineral reserves of 5.35-million tonnes grading 12.0% manganese and 15.5% manganese oxide. Life-of-project production is estimated at 1.50-million tonnes of HPMSM and 99 000 t of HPMO, with metallurgical recovery averaging 87%.

Potential Job Creation

Not stated.

Net Present Value/Internal Rate of Return

The DFS estimates an after-tax net present value (NPV), at an 8% real discount rate, of $481.5-million and an internal rate of return (IRR) of 20.3%. The pretax NPV is estimated at $531-million and the IRR at 21.1%. After-tax payback from the start of processing is estimated at 4.8 years.

Capital Expenditure

Initial capital expenditure is estimated at $535-million, including contingency.

Planned Start/End Date

Construction is scheduled to start in April 2027 and continue for about 20 months. Cold commissioning is planned for November 2028, followed by hot commissioning in early 2029. First ore feed is targeted for March 2029.

Latest Developments

Giyani plans to undertake further optimisation work, including improvements to manganese recovery, front-end engineering and design work, plant-layout optimisation, increased solar-power utilisation, lower-carbon reagent sourcing and expanded international procurement activities.

Giyani will continue discussions with strategic partners and evaluate opportunities in the battery-grade manganese sector as it advances the project towards development.
