Liberty Coal revives Optimum mine with R3bn investment

Coal producer Liberty Coal is in the process of reviving the historic and beleaguered Optimum mine with a R3-billion investment into infrastructure re-development, the re-opening of several mines within the complex and the expansion of export rail capacity.
Of the total investment, Liberty Coal spent R460-million in reviving a dragline machine and additional capital on getting the mine’s heavy dense media separation plant back to an operational state.
