WRECKING BALL

Allegations of corruption have always dogged the Gauteng Health Department, but the latest Tembisa Hospital revelations have highlighted the scale of the looting. If R2-billion can be stolen from one modest-sized hospital, what would be revealed if the lens were widened to the province’s entire health network, let alone that of the entire country? Unless and until the basics are restored, it would surely be reckless in the extreme to implement something as large and ambitious as the National Health Insurance scheme.
