Logistics and supply chain company DP World will develop the Mombasa Industrial Park Special Economic Zone to strengthen Kenya's position as a regional trade and logistics gateway and address the growing demand for modern industrial and logistics infrastructure in East Africa.

The 222 ha industrial park will be developed in phases and will be located less than 20 km from the Port of Mombasa, which will provide businesses with efficient access to regional and international markets.

The first phase of the industrial park will span 40 ha.

DP World signed an agreement with venture capital conglomerate GulfCap Africa to develop the project.

DP World has an established logistics and market access footprint in Kenya.

With its expertise in developing and operating integrated logistics ecosystems and special economic zones, DP World is well positioned to support the development of world-class industrial infrastructure that enhances trade, improves market access and drives sustainable long-term economic growth, the company says.

“Kenya is an important market for DP World and a key gateway for trade across East Africa. The development of the Mombasa Industrial Park is an investment in integrated trade infrastructure that connects ports, logistics and industrial ecosystems.

“By creating an environment where businesses can manufacture, distribute and access global markets more efficiently, we are helping to unlock new opportunities for trade, investment and sustainable economic growth,” says DP World Group CEO Yuvraj Narayan.

“The development of the Mombasa Industrial Park further positions the country as a leading trade and logistics hub for East Africa. This project will strengthen regional trade and supply chain connectivity and create thousands of employment opportunities, attract new investment and contribute meaningfully to Kenya's socioeconomic development,” says DP World Africa CEO and MD Mohammed Akoojee.

The agreement remains subject to the fulfilment of certain precedent conditions and completion of the formal signing process.

Further details on the development and project milestones will be announced.
