The project will triple Jomo Kenyatta International Airport’s passenger capacity from 7.5-million to 22-million. The scope of work includes the construction of a new terminal building and associated support facilities; the modernisation and upgrade of existing infrastructure; the improvement of air- and landside operations; and the enhancement of overall operational efficiency and service delivery.

The Kenya government signed a $1.2-billion agreement with China State-owned construction company China Road and Bridge Corporation in June 2026 to overhaul the facility. More than 40 companies participated in the prebid conference held in April 2026 to provide clarity on project expectations and scope of work.
