Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) is inviting requests for proposals (RFPs) from qualified investors to develop two logistics sites at Ambrose Park in the Port of Durban.

The project aims to boost port capacity, improve operational efficiency and drive long-term economic growth.

The RFP relates to designated portions of King’s Royal Flats No. 16576, identified as Sites 1 and 4.

These sites are earmarked for the design, construction and operation of commercial logistics facilities over a lease period of up to 25 years.

Site 1 offers around 70 478 m², while Site 4 spans over 101 065 m².

Located within the Port of Durban’s Bayhead precinct, TNPA says the sites are well positioned to support the container-handling sector and other port-related logistics activities, as they can leverage their proximity to key port infrastructure and logistics corridors.

The envisaged developments will accommodate a broad range of port-related logistics activities, including cargo handling, warehousing, storage and distribution.

TNPA says the project is poised to unlock new port commercial opportunities within the precinct.

“These sites represent one of the port’s key logistics development opportunities,” says Durban Port manager Mpumi Dweba-Kwetana.

“Through this development, TNPA aims to stimulate new commercial activity and strengthen the port’s position as a leading hub for integrated logistics and value-added services.

“The RFP aligns with TNPA’s broader strategic objectives, under the Transnet Reinvent for Growth strategy, which focuses on optimising asset utilisation, attracting sustained private-sector investment and accelerating economic growth.”

TNPA expects proposals to demonstrate alignment with its modernisation objectives, as well as environmental, social and governance principles, advanced security measures, and the adoption of automation and digital technologies to support a more efficient and future-ready port system.
